Vanessa não está na Bíblia — mas metade dela é Ester



  • Vanessa não está na Bíblia e não tem etimologia: Jonathan Swift inventou-o em 1726 para o seu poema Cadenus e Vanessa, ao reorganizar as sílabas iniciais dos nomes da sua amiga Esther Vanhomrigh.
  • A segunda metade do nome é Ester — que tem o seu próprio livro nas Escrituras.
  • Ester entra na sala do trono do rei sem ser convidada, o que era punível com a morte, depois de Mardoqueu lhe dizer claramente que Deus libertará o seu povo de qualquer maneira: “se te calares agora… tu e a casa de teu pai perecereis” (Ester 4:14).
  • As Escrituras permitem-lhe hesitar antes de dizer “Se eu perecer, pereci.”
  • O livro de Ester nunca menciona Deus — nenhum milagre, nenhum profeta, nenhuma voz do céu. Foi incluído para todos aqueles que tiveram de agir sem um sinal.
