概要
- Jehovah Jireh means “the Lord will provide”. The Hebrew YHWH Yir’eh）の間のこのつながりを裏付けています。 joins the divine name to a verb meaning to see, and so to see to something.
- “Jehovah” is a later vocalisation of the divine name; Yahweh-Yireh is the same phrase, and English Bibles usually print LORD in capitals.
- It comes from Genesis 22:14, spoken by Abraham after the ram was found in the thicket — named afterwards, looking back, not on the way up.
- It promises neither money nor a particular outcome. Abraham was not spared the three days’ walk or his son’s question, and the provision came at the last moment and was not what he had asked for.
- What it promises is that God sees. The chapter leaves behind a saying — “on the mountain of the Lord it will be provided” — that Christians have never read without thinking of another hill.
