- 「Xmas」は「Christmas」の略語であり、「X」はギリシャ語の「Christos（キリスト）」の最初の文字であるギリシャ文字の「カイ（Chi）」を表しています。
- キリストを表すために「X」を用いることには古代からのルーツがあり、初期のキリスト教徒やローマ皇帝コンスタンティヌスが使用した「カイ・ロー」などのシンボルに見ることができます。
- 「Xmas」は時を経て実用的な目的を果たしてきました。文章のスペースを節約し、迫害の時代に信仰を控えめに表現する手段となりました。
