Alyson staat niet in de Bijbel — en de -son is geen patroniem

  • Alyson staat niet in de Bijbel en de spelling misleidt: de “-son” is het Franse verkleinwoord -on, zoals in Marion, geen patroniem. Niemand was ooit de zoon van Aly.
  • De keten loopt van Adalheidis — “adellijke soort” — naar Adelaide, naar Alice, naar kleine Alice, naar Alison. De Wife of Bath van Chaucer is Alisoun.
  • Openbaring 3:1 is de scherpste grens over namen en werkelijkheid: het Grieks zegt dat Sardes een naam in naam had om levend te zijn, en dood was.
  • De Schrift verandert namen wanneer de werkelijkheid verandert — Abram, Jakob, Simon — en in elk geval komt de naam eerst en haalt de persoon in.
  • Het enige gebruik in het Nieuwe Testament dat mensen nobel noemt, is Handelingen 17:11, waar de Bereeërs het verdienen door te controleren of wat Paulus zei waar was.
