  • Le Synode de Trente a affirmé que la messe est un sacrifice véritable et singulier, institué par Jésus pour commémorer son sacrifice sur la croix.
  • La messe est propitiatoire, offrant grâce et miséricorde aux vivants et aux défunts, par la présence non sanglante du Christ.
  • L'Église souligne l'importance de célébrer la messe avec révérence, en utilisant les rites approuvés et en assurant la conduite appropriée des prêtres et des clercs.
  • Plusieurs canons ont été établis pour condamner les erreurs sur la messe, affirmer sa nature sacrificielle et réglementer sa célébration ainsi que le comportement du clergé.
