概要
- カトリック聖書は73巻、プロテスタント聖書は66巻で構成されており、旧約聖書において7巻の第二正典（デューテロカノン）の差があります。
- カトリック聖書に含まれる7巻の第二正典は、トビト記、ユディト記、マカバイ記1書、マカバイ記2書、知恵の書、シラ書（集会の書）、バルク書であり、これらはプロテスタントでは正典とみなされていません。
- 書物の数の違いは宗教改革に端を発しており、マルティン・ルターをはじめとする改革者たちが旧約聖書の正典としてヘブライ語聖書に従うことを選んだのに対し、カトリック教会は七十人訳聖書（セプトゥアギンタ）を使用したためです。
- 違いはあるものの、両伝統とも新約聖書の書物とキリスト教の核心的なメッセージは共有しており、エキュメニカルな聖書翻訳などの取り組みを通じて、理解と受容の溝を埋めようとする努力がなされてきました。
